Discover the wild and beautiful Beara Peninsula on a guided tour of the Ring of Beara.

Overview

This picturesque route offers stunning scenery from mountain to coastal views, travelling through the unspoilt landscape of West Cork and South West Kerry.  Look out for the only cable car in Ireland at Dursey Island and enjoy lunch in Allihies Copper Mining Museum, Europe’s most westerly copper mine.

Pick-up is available from your accommodation in Kenmare.

Travel far, travel often, and travel without regrets.

Setting out from Kenmare, first stop is Molly Gallivan’s Craft Shop where the tradition of selling quality, local crafts has continued for generations. From here, we travel over Caha Pass and through mountain tunnels before emerging to stunning views of Bantry Bay, Barley Lake and Whiddy Island.  Now in West Cork, we continue into Glengariff for a brief stop to view Garinish Island, a spectacular island garden located a short distance away in the bay.

The busy fishing town of Castletownbere is the perfect choice for a coffee break before the road takes us to Allihies, once a centre for copper mining on the western edge of Europe. Today, this remote and beautiful village is home to a Copper Mining Museum, offering a wonderful insight into the unique history and heritage of the area.  The Copper Cafe is a good lunch option here. Nearby, the few inhabitants of Dursey Island are served by Ireland’s only cable car. When operational, it is used to bring cattle, animal feed and passengers across the narrow sound from the mainland.

Enjoy the coastal views travelling north towards Eyeries, into Adrigole before traversing the Healy Pass en route back to Kenmare.
